Local Lodging and Camping
Dog & Pony Ranch Day Visit guests may want to spend the night nearby to enjoy the Gold Country. There is much to do before or after your ranch visit including Amador wineries, caverns, antique shops, historic sites, lakes, rivers, and more!
Below are nearby lodging options to give you a quick comparison from a local's perspective (note: we do NOT get commissions -- these are the places we've stayed and/or referred to personal friends/family). There are other options (such as historic boutique and vacation rentals) with pricing/availability on search sites such as Booking.com.
Several of our Day Visit guests have opted for camping at nearby Indian Grinding Rock state park (6 miles from ranch, on other side of Pine Grove). There are many more camping options up Hwy88 towards Kirkwood including where we've camped with our water dogs along the Consumnes River (~30 miles), Bear River Reservoir (~40 miles), Silver Lake and Caples Lake (~50 miles) and regularly take our pups for offsite hikes during the summer.

Amador Hotel in Pioneer (10 miles and our recommendation). Renovated during covid and further up Hwy 88 for those who want a reasonably-priced 4-star hotel with country/mountain experience. Plate88 restaurant is next door.
Best Western Amador Inn in Jackson (9 miles). Well-known dog-friendly chain and closest to many Jackson restaurants.
- Holiday Inn Express in Jackson (9 miles). Well-known hotel brand, though only allows service dogs.
Quality Inn & Suites in Jackson (10 miles). Budget option near downtown Jackson. Previously called Jackson Lodge.
Kiota Inn in Sutter Creek (12 miles). Higher-rated hotel close to beautiful Sutter Creek.
- Jackson Rancheria (7 miles). The RV Park is dog-friendly
; the casino and hotel only allow service dogs. There's a shuttle from the RV Park to the casino.
